Learning Outcomes

The EWEM programme aims at training the students to shape the future of wind energy and prepares them to pursue a career in the wind energy sector, either in industry or in research. After completing the programme the EWEM graduate is able to:

  • understand the product development process applied in and outside wind energy
  • apply and possibly improve a scientific methodology for the benefit of product development
  • design and implement complex wind energy systems and their components
  • contribute to the formulation and implementation of a research project

The joint introduction in the first semester and the specific multidisciplinary and project-oriented didactic approach makes the students able to transfer their knowledge and competences beyond the domain of their own specialisations and to embed their design choices in a socio-technical context. Thanks to the international dimension of the programme EWEM students have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with different educational methods within a multicultural environment.

The EWEM students acquire knowledge in the theoretical and applied sciences underlying wind energy systems, both in general and in relation to the chosen specialisation track. This allows the EWEM graduate to easily adapt to the rapid changes occurring within the wind energy field and to gain the competencies necessary to operate in the chosen area of specialization. Furthermore, the programme gives the student the opportunity to participate in laboratory projects and internships and thus to acquire practical knowledge of the wind energy sector and the management skills necessary to apply it.

As for the structure of the programme, the EWEM graduates are prepared to:

  • actively work in multicultural teams
  • apply their knowledge, understanding and problem solving skills in new environments in creative and innovative ways
  • make sound decisions in challenging situations
  • manage projects
  • integrate multi-disciplinary knowledge and handle complex wind energy systems, formulate judgements with incomplete or limited information (e.g. environmental data, technical and economic product performance, market developments) and to account for their social and ethical implications
  • apply a self-directed and autonomous approach to their studies
  • unambiguously communicate conclusions and the rationale underpinning those, to wind energy specialists as well as to non-specialist audiences
  • define new research questions
