Wind Europe Summit 2016Monday, October 10, 2016

EWEM went to Wind Europe Summit 2016 and it was great! 17 students had the chance to travel to Hamburg and live at first-hand the biggest wind energy congress in Europe. Three days of debate about the future of wind energy and how to make the transition to renewables work. EWEM was also present in a stand and in the recruitment day presenting the programme to students and the industry.
It was also noticeable the presence of the EWEM-alumni – Mareike Leimeister and Marthijn Bontekoning - both from the cohort 2014-16 Offshore Engineering track. Mareike (at the left hand side of the picture), presented a poster about the paper she wrote as a result of her MSc Thesis: ”Design Optimization and Upscaling of a Semi-Submersible Floating Platform”. Marthijn (at the right hand side of the picture), was present in the Dutch pavilion of the Wind Energy Hamburg exhibition presenting his new entrepreneur adventure ”Live Megawatt”. The startup, cofounded by him and his colleague and friend Jeppe Bijker, shows wind farm real time statistics that can be used by stake holders and may get wind energy closer to a new social perspective. We wish our brilliant students the best in their careers.
And year by year EWEM becomes bigger and better. Prove of that was the presence of the 5 existing cohorts in the event. In the following memorable picture we see EWEM-students from cohort 2013-15 to 2016-18; from left to right Nick G. C. Janssen, Marthijn Bontekoning, Jorge Mendoza and Ottelien Bossuyt.
It was a great experience and we would like to thank ASE Aeolus for the arrangements of the visit and Wind Europe and ABB for sponsoring the tickets.
