Aerodynamics Ph.D. candidate Jan Schneiders and EWEM student Constantin Jux from the Rotor Design track won the best paper award at the last International Symposium on Particle Image Velocimetry (Ispiv), held last June in Busan (KR).

Their work deals with a novel “torch-like” system for large-scale tomographic PIV based on the use of helium-filled soap bubbles. Jan and Constantin used this system for the full-scale measurement of the flow around Giro d’Italia winning cyclist Tom Dumoulin (video) under the supervision of Dr. Sciacchitano and Prof. Scarano.
